Academics

Our ZTA sisters are members of many Honor Societies across campus, including Mortar Board (Seniors), Alpha Lambda Delta (Freshmen), Alpha Epsilon Delta (Pre-health), Sigma Tau Delta (English), Phi Alpha Delta (Law), Psi Chi (Psychology), Alpha Psi Omega (Theatre), Sigma Alpha Pi (Leadership & Success), Omicron Delta Kappa, and Order of Omega (Greek Life). We also have sisters involved in organizations such as the Harrison Honors Program, Hess Fellows, and Leadership Studies. It comes as no surprise to see the names of many ZTA sisters on the Dean's List each semester, and several sisters have even been recognized on the Southern Athletic Academic Honor Roll.

Alpha Nu takes academics to a whole new level. Our Academic Achievement Chairman works closely with sisters in an open, engaging manner to ensure they are taking steps towards achieving success. From scheduling studying hours to pairing sisters together with similar class schedules or majors, ZTA's are held to the highest standard and encouraged to seek guidance if needed. In this way, we are able to hold each member accountable and strengthen the bonds of sisterhood in a way that is beneficial to the entire chapter.

As the first line of our Creed states, every member should strive "to realize that within our grasp, in Zeta Tau Alpha, lies the opportunity to learn those things that will ever enrich and ennoble our lives."  Likewise, Alpha Nu is always striving to improve and enrich the lives of each member. Our hope is that after graduation, whether it be five or fifty years from now, every member of Alpha Nu will be able to look back at her accomplishments with pride and remember her experiences with fondness. While Birmingham-Southern College already holds its students to a high standard of personal and academic excellence, the Alpha Nu chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha continues to challenge its members to go above and beyond these expectations.

From Zeta Tau Alpha's Creed to its Mission Statement, ZTA strives "to make a difference in the lives of our members by developing the potential of each individual through innovative programming, which emphasizes leadership development, service to others, academic achievement and continued personal growth for women, with a commitment to friendship and the future based on the sisterhood, values, and traditions of the past."   ZTA's at Birmingham-Southern continue to grow as leaders both in the chapter and in the classroom thanks to the sisters and greater connections that continually invest in each member's success.

Besides the academic programs and fellow sisters available to members as resources for academic success, our Freshmen are also paired with a mentor from an alumnae chapter to check in throughout the semester. We also have a special tradition with the Huntsville Alumnae Chapter which brings Alpha Nu study goodies before finals each semester.
